There was a time when pole lights were only meant for the lights on highways and roads. These days, due to their beauty, elegance as well as the increased need for outdoor light arrangements, pole lights are becoming more popular. Now people have started installing pole lights in walkways, doorways, light ways, car parking areas, etc.

Pole Lights offer a variety of options. You can have as many sizes, styles, and designs to choose from as you want. Some companies are also offering a customized way of pole lights shopping, where the buyer can design it according to his/her own requirement. Due to this extent of flexibility, customization and available options, choosing a pole light is not an easy thing to do. Here are some things to consider while choosing a pole light.

ü  The first important thing to consider is the location where the light is to be placed. Outdoor pole lights are different from the Indoor ones, since outdoor lighting is usually concentrated downwards.

ü  Other important factors are the position and number of lights to be installed. Make a rough idea of the number of lights you need, and the average distance between two poles. This will help you in narrowing down the designs and sizes fitting to your needs.

Once you have chosen the appropriate lights fixture,it is time for installation. Some important things to keep in mind at this time are:

ü  Right choice of the Bulb: The type and power of the bulb can significantly affect the light output. So, careful selection is needed in this regard. In most cases, at least 100 watts  power is needed to properly illuminate the area under the pole, however the actual wattage depends on the type of bulb.

Moreover, one needs to remember that the lesser the distance between the bulb and the transformer, greater will be the light emitted.

ü  Right choice of the Transformer: It is also suggested that while choosing the transformer, it should be made sure that the transformer has more capacity than needed. For instance if the requirement is to light one 100 watts bulb, the transformer should have a capacity of at least 150 to 200 watts. By doing this, you can expand the light anytime without the need of buying an extra transformer.

ü  Appropriate Wiring: Choosing the right bulb and transformer is not enough. Wiring is also an important thing to ensure the maximum light output. Use a good quality, high insulation wire. Also, to be on safe side, always leave some extra wiring  while connecting each light.

Besides considering the above described technical aspects of pole lighting, consider the aesthetic side as well. Choose lighter or darker colors according to the location and theme to make it more appealing and elegant.
